Hey everyone! Hope ya'll are doing good! Here are some
stories from my week!
This morning we went to the Salt Lake Temple!! It was my
first time going into that temple. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever
seen, literally heaven on earth. I'm so grateful we got to go. Do you guys get
to go to a temple? Since there are so many in Utah we get to go once every 3
months with our zone so that's pretty awesome! We had to get up at 4:00 this
morning to get there. After the temple we went on a tour of the Conference
center and that was sooo awesome. There are so many beautiful paintings! Did
you know the pulpit was made from a tree in President Hinckley's back yard?
Pretty cool!
Overall this week was amazing. I think it's been the best
and the longest week on the mission so far. We contacted 14 referrals and had
about 13 lessons so that's awesome! My love for this work and for the gospel is
growing bigger every day. Especially after today in the temple. There is a
different feeling in that temple than all the others. Feels like you're already
in heaven.
This week my companion and I went to Dugway for the
entire fast Sunday. There was only about 50 people there, so they are a very
tight knit Ward which is really awesome. At the beginning of the mission when I
first came into the area we only had 2 appointments set up in Dugway. Now, with
the help of our awesome Ward mission leader out there we are going on splits
when we go up there! Either my companion or I will stay on base for lessons,
and a member will take the other out to Skull Valley to teach lessons out
there. We usually only spend about 2 hours in Dugway during the week because it
takes an hour to get there since its on the other side of the mountains, and an
hour to get back. Skull Valley is literally in the middle of nowhere cowboy
country. The houses/ ranches are at least 20- 30 minutes apart. So we can
usually only see 2 or so appointments out there and 3-4 on base.
We've also started to ask members and less actives out
there to feed us (cause everyone loves to feed the missionaries haha) and we've
been able to get more referrals that way! There is a less active woman out
there named Colleen and I absolutely adore her. She's an older woman, and when
we go we have to really try to get a lesson in because she loves to tell us
stories. I could sit there and listen to her talk for hours, she has such a
sweet spirit and she cares so much for other people and her family. She's also
a huge genealogy nut which is great!
Also, while driving home from Rush Valley last night I
finally hit a deer. It wasn't a bad hit, just like a really hard love tap. He
was fine and the car was fine. Sister Romero and I were just scared for a
minute. Everyone said it's not a matter of if, but when you hit one. They also
say that with cows too, but so far I haven't hit one of those. Hopefully, that
never happens cause that would total our poor car.
Love you guys and miss you lots!
Love,
Sister Martinez
