Mālo e lelei everyone!

Sooo ... guess what! I got transferred to the Tongan Stake! Yep. Samoan to Tongan. The beginning of the week was really hard because I missed the Samoan ward and my old companions. I feel like I might go back there one day though, so there is always hope! I have a new AMAZING companion now, Sister Afungia is Tongan and she's from Texas. She is one of the sweetest and kindest people I have ever met, and she's super chill. We work really well together.

This area is different than the others I've served in because it's sooo big! We pretty much live in our car because all our appointments and members live so far apart. So we spend a lot of time driving. It gets a little frustrating because we want to be talking to people instead of being in our car all day. But we are starting to come up with productive things to do in the car.

General Conference was amazing!!! We took our investigator Jenlei and her fiancé Rod, who is a member. They both loved it and after the session we were able to meet up with Elder Nash and listen to him as he talked to a group of youth. Jenlei loved that so much!! She said she wanted to ask him so many questions and she was even taking notes while he was talking! On the walk back to the car she opened up to us about her feelings towards religion and told us why she wants to be baptized. Whenever she had seen missionaries in Guam (where she is from), she said she always had this feeling like she was going to be protected. Here she feels the same thing, she calls it her blanket in the cold. But she didn't know why that feeling went away or how she could always have it with her until the missionaries started teaching her and she learned that it is the Holy Ghost and she decided she needs to get baptized! Her finance Rod served a mission and he is a big support.

Overall we had a great week! I am so grateful for a living Prophet and Apostles who love us so much. I'm grateful for the guidance and counsel they give us and I know our lives will be blessed tremendously if we follow it. One of my favorite quotes came from Elder Kazuhiko Yamashita who  said "Boys Be Ambitious For Christ!" I love that so much. What does it mean to be ambitious for Christ? To me it means to have a good attitude about doing his work and to want to do it FOR HIM, because of our love for HIM! Elder Nelson talked about how joy doesn't have anything to do with the circumstances of our lives, but our focus. I think everyday we can choose to be ambitious for the Christ in the way we choose to see things and how we react. If we strive our best to do what Christ would do, including seeing all things in a positive light and with an eye of faith, then we are being ambitious for Him. So I want to invite you all to do that this week! Choose to be ambitious for Christ and have a positive focus in all things. I promise if you do this you will be happier and find more joy in your day and in your lives! 😊

I love you all so so much and I miss you!!! I hope everyone is doing good and you all have a great week!

Love,
Sister Abby Martinez
