Hey
Dad and Jenny!!!
How are you guys doing!? I miss you all. Thank you for the emails last week :) Can you guys believe we are halfway through July already!? It's crazy!!! The time is flying. I've been gone 8 months now, and before you know it it will be 9- the halfway mark, then Jenny's birthday, then September, then my birthday, then November (my year mark), then Christmas and I'll get to talk to you guys, then I'll be home!! It's crazy.... I can't wrap my heard around it. Sister Robles and I have been talking a lot about what we will do when we come home from our missions, what habits we have developed that we will keep up, people that will no longer fit into our lives, how we will keep growing and progressing in the gospel, plans for school, dating, etc. She goes home in September so she needs to start thinking about this now. I don't go home for a while but the Lord always seems to put me with companions that need help with thinking about and planning for home. It's a big transition for missionaries because you are not the same person when you come home, your priorities change a lot.
This week was good though, we aren't having very many lessons right now but we made a plan to contact more people yesterday so that is good. We have been trying to do a lot of service for the members in our area but we are looking for more! We need to serve these people!!
It is hot down here in Utah. Most days it's in the 90s or 100s, at least that's what it feels like. I try not to look at the temperature because then I can pretend it's cooler than it actually is. Haha
Hey dad! Guess what! I have been reading the Book of Mormon with my question and I am learning so much about Heavenly Father and who He is and how he works. I know he is our Heavenly Father for everybody, but a father is different to each one of his children depending on their needs, and since Heavenly Father knows me perfectly He is going to be different for me Han for my companion or anyone else! I learned something really cool this week when I was reading my scriptures. It's when Nephi and his family are in the wilderness and After Nephi breaks his bow everyone in their party starts to murmur and complain, even Lehi- who is the prophet!!, so Nephi makes a new bow and asks his dad to ask the Lord where he should look for food. So Lehi humbles himself and asks God and God tells him, AND THEN, verse 25 says "And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came unto my father; and he was truly chastened because of his murmuring against the Lord, insomuch that he was brought down into the depths of sorrow." That verse shows that Heavenly Father really is JUST LIKE a parent!! We know from Hebrews 11 "whom the Lord loveth he chastens" and I love this verse because Heavenly Father is showing fatherly love for Lehi by correcting him. He didn't just forgive Lehi when he repented and not tell him what he did wrong, he let him know that he had hurt his feelings by not trusting Him and that was not okay. It's like the same thing you would do with us dad. If Jenny or I did something wrong you wouldn't just let us off the hook when we say sorry, you would tell us what we did wrong so we can become better. He had expectations for Lehi because Lehi was the prophet and Lehi didn't meet those expectations in that moment and God let him know. How cool is that!? We really are all Heavenly Father's children and he loves us so much.
I love you both so much and I want to let you know that I know this gospel is true and it's crazy how much I'm learning here. I've learned more in the past 8 months than I ever would have if I stayed home or went to school. I can't imagine where I would be without my mission. When I come home I know I will still have to make decisions about school and dating and getting married, but they aren't as scary anymore because I'm going to consult the Lord and strive to live righteously, and I know that if I do those things he will guide and direct my path and put me where I need to be, and everything will work out. Things will still be hard, but it's God's plan :))
You both are amazing, how are your goals of going to the temple going?? I think I get to go to the temple in the middle of August...
I'll be thinking of both of you. Hey! Maybe we can coordinate so we are all in a temple at the same time!! THAT WOULD BE SO COOL!!!😄😄😄😄
Hope you are doing good,
Love,
Sister Abby Martinez
