All is well in Zion

Well this week was even more interesting than last week. Ha-ha!

On Thursday Sister Craft had a cold, so we stayed in for the morning so she could rest. The Sisters that cover the stake next to ours are in a trio and two of them have served in the West stake that I'm covering, so one of them came out with me in the evening while Sister Craft stayed with our senior couple. Friday Sister Craft still didn't feel good, but she pushed through for 1/2 the day and then I went out in the evening again with another sister. I've been doing my best to take care of her, getting her medicine and anything else she needs, keeping her company, keeping the apartment clean, and trying to organize all our lessons and meetings with people. It's been crazy stressful because I don't know the area very well yet or many of the members really well and we rely on them a lot, and I still haven't met everyone we are working with, so its been a struggle this week.

Saturday I found out that even though I was doing all I could to take care of her and still do the work, she didn't feel like I cared and that she thought I thought she was faking being sick. I was so upset because, of course, I didn't think she was faking, I know she wants to be out doing the work with me, especially since she's almost done! I didn't know what to do, but after some really intense prayer and study I decided to stay in with her for the whole day, even though I would basically be watching her sleep, I felt like she just needed me to be there physically to keep her company and let her know that she's important to the work. So that's what I did, and I think it made her feel a whole lot better. Ever since, she has been more open with me and just happier! We watched Remember the Titian's that day and it made me realize how much I miss football so that was a little sad, ha-ha. Then Sunday morning she woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep so I stayed up with her and told her stories till 6:30 ha-ha. On Sunday she came to sacrament, then went and rested and I went out with the other sisters, and tonight we will do the same. We called the nurse and are getting her some antibiotics so hopefully, she can feel better this week.

This week has kind of changed my perspective a little on what a good missionary is, it reminded me that we are called to serve our companions just as much as our investigators.

To be honest this week has just been exhausting and stressful. I'm so worn out so hopefully I'll find some time to take a nap today. It's been a little frustrating because I haven't been able to.

There were some pretty cool things that happened this week though, the other sisters and I were FINALLY able to set appointments with some investigators we had been trying to get a hold of weeks and in one case, since the other sisters were here so that was pretty cool! One of the sisters I went on splits with is Sister Faaofo and she is half Tongan and half Samoan. One night as we were walking we saw a Tongan woman and they started speaking in Tongan and the lady came over to talk to us! Turns out she is not a member but her son is and she said we could come back next week to teach her! We sang her a song in Tongan and she was so surprised with me because I'm white, ha-ha.

So that's my week, pretty slow and unconventional, but all is well in Zion!! We will be back to work in no time, and in the meantime I get to spend lots of quality time with my comp so, I'm a happy camper :))

Hope you all are doing well, I love and miss you all!!
Love,
Sister Abby Martinez
