Hey Fam!! How are ya'll doing!?
This has been a very eventful week.
At the beginning of the week we had exchanges, which is
when we change companions for a day with our STLs (Sister Training Leaders) so
they can evaluate us and give us suggestions on how to improve as missionaries.
I was nervous and kind of scared at first because I was worried I was going to
forget to do something I was suppose to do, but HermaƱa Reyes, my STL that was
my companion for the day was SUPER chill. Turns out she's from Tacoma and is a
Seahawks fan! So it was really nice to be able to talk to her about back home a
little bit.
She da homie, I'll definitely keep in touch with her when
she goes home.
On Friday we had our first baptism!! It was awesome!!
Everything went perfect. We had a full crowd, family from out of town, the font
water was warm, and Sister Romero and I sang "If the Savior Stood Beside
Me"! His name is Loren and he is 9 years old. He is a goofy kid that
doesn't take anything seriously. But he loves the gospel and asks questions and
I love him. It was so amazing to see the font doors open up and see him
standing in the water with his grandpa Bart.
Friday we also had transfer calls because transfers are
on Tuesday and guess what!! Sister Romero and I are staying in Tooele and
staying together!!! Woohoo!! We are both so happy about this. I feel like the
members are finally starting to trust us and get use to us, and we have found
about 6 new investigators this past week, so I really don't want to lose
them. But more importantly there are some people here that we are working with
that I am really starting to care for and don't want to leave.
So far the hardest thing for me is staying awake all day.
I'm ready to drop dead after lunch most days. Haha!
Last night we had the most amazing lesson with 2 of our
less actives and 2 members. We had challenged one of our less actives to work
on being meek and humble that week. A really good example of how meek and
humble the Savior was is in Mosiah 14 where the prophet Isaiah is talking about
the humiliation and suffering the the Savior would go through in order to make
His soul an offering for our sin. It's incredible how much the Savior loved us.
He didn't come to us in heavenly glory, but in humble circumstances, "when
we shall see him there is no beauty that we should desire him." And He
KNEW that he would be despised, rejected, smitten, spit upon, cast out, that he
would not be accepted by all, "but he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities, and with his stripes we are healed."
Can you believe that? Even after the people rejected him and wanted to kill
him, he was still willing to suffer such UNBELIEVABLE pain and anguish so that
those people, the very ones that persecuted him, could be forgiven of their
sins too and return to live with him. That is charity. That is humility!!! He was
willing to submit to The Father's plan and suffer for people who didn't
recognize him as the Messiah they had been waiting for.
I love and miss all of you very much.
Love,
Sister Abby Martinez
